ABSTRACT

This study examined the mechanism by which calcium soaps of long chain of fatty acids [CSFA] and recombinant bovine Somatotropin [rbST] affect production and reproduction of Baladi goats [does]. The present study was carried out on 16 multiparous pregnant Baladi does aged 2.5 - 3 years. The treatments were initiated approximately four weeks before lambing until eight weeks post-lambing. Animals received 1 kg /head/day basal diet and allocated into four groups [n = 4 does /group]: without any treatment [control group I], plus 50 gm/head/day of CSFA [group II], 1 mg /kg body weight of rbST S/C injection every 14 days [group III], or a combination of CSFA supplementation and rbST injection [group IV]. It was found that a significantly shorter mean intervals [days] from lambing to first luteal activity and to conception and a higher percentage of ovarian cyclicity [100%] in group II and IV than in group I and III [75%]. Conception rate was also higher in group II and IV [100%] than group III [75%] and I [50%]. All kids of the treated groups had a significantly increase in their birth and weaning weights when compared with those from control group. There were significant increases in serum insulin in group II and IV and in serum leptin in all treated groups throughout the trial. Prolactin concentration was significantly higher in all treated groups than in the control one especially in rbST injected does. Also serum progesterone level showed a significant increase in all treated groups. Meanwhile, there was a significant effect of CSFA and rbST on T3 level during the first two weeks only of post-partum period and on T4 at day of lambing and during the second month of post-partum period. There was a significant increase in milk fat in all treated groups than control one, but showed highly significant increase in groups II and IV than in group III. Meanwhile, there was a non-significant effect of treatments on percentage of milk protein, total solids or solid not fat throughout the trial. In addition, there was a significant decrease in milk urea content in the three treated groups than in the control group. In conclusion, using of CSFA and rbST have a positive effect on lamb performance and milk composition. Meanwhile, CSFA supplementation has a more positive effect on reproductive performance, lamb performance and milk composition than injection of rbST. So, we recommend that using CSFA for does during late pregnancy and early post-partum period as a feed supplement at a level of 50 gm/head/day to improve reproductive performance, enhance metabolic profile, enhance lamb performance [in terms of birth weight, weaning weight and growth rate] and improve milk quantity and quality

ABSTRACT

To estimate the changes in the epidimiology and histopathology of bladder cancer in rural and urban areas and their impact on the treatment prognosis. Seventy cases of bladder cancer at different stages from a rural area [El Minoufiya] were tabulated according to the age, the sex and the histopatho/ogic types. Of the.seventy pateints included 57 pateints [81.4%] were invasive [T2T3T4] and subjected to radical cystectomy at Tala Central Hospital and Shebin El Kom Teaching Hospital, group I [the rural group]. Those [57] pateints were compared with [58] pateints with invasive bladder cancer [T2, T3, T4] from a mixed area who underwent radical cystectomy in the urology department, Kasr El Ainy Hospital, group II [the mixed group]. The age of the patients included ranged between 30-83 [57.82 +/- 11.8] years and 25-82 [56.68 +/- 11.2] years in group l andll respectively with a significant increase in the age incidence than in the past. The male to female ratio was [4.6:1] in group I and [4.2:1] in group II which is higher than the known ratio of about [2.7 : 1]. The percentage of pateints according to the histopathology was as follows: Transitional Cell Carcinoma was 57.9% and 50% in group I and II, while Squamous Cell Carcinoma was 31.6% and 46.55% in group I and II respectively. The lymph node invasion was 26.3% in group I and 15.5% in group II. The bladder cancer epidemilogy and histopathology in Egypt, both in rural and urban areas has changed in the last decades not only due to decreased incidence of bilharzial infection and increased age incidence but also due to the wide exposure to different types of enviromental carcinogens

ABSTRACT

With the increased rate of orthopedic trauma especially proximal femur, neck femur fractures, non-union, malunion and hip osteoarthritis; and the increased production of instrumentation, we designed a new implant for valgus osteotomy with dynamic osteotomy plate. This implant overcomes a lot disadvantages occurred with the other implants. The aim of this work is to present this implant and its results in treating union problems [nonunion and malunion] in proximal femur and neck femur fractures. 30 patients with different hip problems were included in this study. From April 2000 to May 2005. 12 females and 18 males. Their age ranged from 21 to 68 years old. All patients submitted to a period of follow up [x-rays and clinical evaluation]. This study reported a significant results in early union, correction of the deformity and good hip range of movement with the use of the valgus osteotomy dynamic plate. In conclusion there is a marvelous results and better outcomes with use of this implant. ABSTRACT

Tibial and femoral fractures of high velocity injuries are managed in our department following principles of internal fixator with high rate of union, good surgical outcome regarding alignment, reduction and function with specially constructed plate making the reconstructive interlocking system of little interest. The radiological follow up shows earlier union with callus formation. The technique is simple and percutaneous under x-ray control. In late follow up there is preservation of the anatomy and respect of subtrochantric region. The number of cases is increasing now almost over a period of time of 5 years including different types of femoral and tibial fractures fresh and old and as we gained more experience we had extended the indications of biological fixation to include cases with mal and non-union. This paper had been presented, discussed and accepted in: The annual international congress of the EOA in december 2003 Mena House, Cairo, Egypt. And the author was awarded

ABSTRACT

Retrograde femoral nailing is indicated in many cases such as: Combined fractures of the femoral and tibial shaft, Both can be attacked through the same approach Jpsilateral fractures of the femoral shaft and neck., Periprothestic fractures in the distal third of the femur and Femoral shaft fractures with ipsilateral fractures of the pelvis or acetabulum. 75 cases underwent retrograde femoral nailing in menofia university hospital during the period from 2000 to 2005. We observe in some cases there is anterior callus more than posterior callus where the insertion from the intercondylar notch because the nail about posterior cortex so we shift to the articular surface as previous mentioned. ABSTRACT

Forty one patients with colonic volvulus admitted to Kasr El-Aini Hospital from 1987 through 1992 were reviewed. Their age ranged between 25 to 73 with an average of 49 years. Only three of them had cecal volvulus and the other 38 had sigmoid volvulus. Intestinal obstruction was the commonest presentation [83%] and 17% of the patients had peritonitis. The cases were subjected to different treatment modalities. Primary resection anastomosis was one of these modalities that was done for eleven cases either as an emergency procedure or after decompression and preparation with an acceptable results. The mortality rate in all cases was 17%. The study showed that primary resection anastomosis is one of the procedures that can be considered in selected cases of sigmoid volvulus

ABSTRACT

It was assumed that attitudes held by nurses will help to determine the quality of care given to old people. One hundred diploma and baccalaureate nurses who are a permanent staff in the medical and surgical units in the medical research institute and the main university hospitals, in Alexandria university were participated in the study. Data were collected using the older person Questionnaire [OPQ] to determine nurses attitude towards the elderly people. The results revealed that nurses have a negative attitude toward elderly people. Age factor did not indicate a significant difference with nurses attitude while level of education indicated a significant difference at 5% level. It was recommended that nursing education and inservice training programs should stress the importance of gerontology
